Alan W. Childs, Professor emeritus of Psychology, received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Tennessee, and has been on the faculty of Lafayette College since 1980, and has served in a number of leadership positions on campus including Chair of the Department of Psychology, Dean of Academic Services, and as the founding director of the Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship. His teaching and service activities have included consulting with local hospitals in establishing and utilizing medical ethics committees. He was a long-term member of the Lafayette Leadership Education Committee. He was also the first Executive Director of the Colonial League, the precursor to The Patriot League, a Division I athletic conference. Prior to his academic career, he was a member of the U.S. Army having served as an airborne infantry platoon leader and a military intelligence officer.
